Quiet Time With Little Ones In The Home - Raising Up Wonder

Quiet Time With Little Ones In The Home

Quiet time, what is it and why is it important?

I hear this term a lot! In church, between friends, in books and in podcasts it seems everybody is stressing the importance of quiet time. For good reason! I feel like this can be different for everyone but for me quiet time is just taking a moment out of my day to spend time with Jesus and keep my heart on things above rather than the things of this world.  A chance to grow and hide truth in my heart so I can live out the day walking in His grace.

This world is heavy guys! So so heavy. But Jesus says:
28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
Matthew 11:28-30
So just taking the time out of everyday do just lift my eyes and take them off my current circumstance does so much good!

I started doing this when I moved to Washington, I can't even tell you why I started, I just did! Then as soon as Avery was born it has been different. I suddenly didn't get my standard 30min-1hr everyday. It turned into what ever I could do before she needed to eat again. But as she grew and nap times got more consistent I had my time again.

Plot twist, Ryder came and I was back to just squeezing whatever time I had in. And that's the thing about this. The rule is there are no rules. You just do what works for you in your current season. Give lots and lots of grace.

Some things that have helped me:

  • Doing a Bible study, we have them in the spring and fall in out local church and it is a great was to keep me accountable as well as learn from other believers.

  • Doing a Bible study on my own, I love the studies from Well Watered Women and The Daily Grace Co. Both these companies do a great job showing how the Bible is so relevant to our everyday life. Side note: Well Watered Women is a great resource! They have a great blog and share truth daily on their social media accounts. Definitely check them out! https://www.instagram.com/wellwateredwomen/

  • Prayer journals, sometimes when I have no time to finish my study I just pray. But I'm just really tired and a little (a lot) scatterbrained so writing down my prayers in a journal has helped me so much! My absolute favorite journal is from Val Marie Paper I currently have the 6 month version, but I am wanting the yearly SO bad!! It is so neat you guys! It has sections for our world, our country, family, personal prayers, and even some blank spots you can fill in according to what you need. The coolest part is looking back at your finished journal and see what God has done!

  • Journaling Bible I got a journaling Bible for my birthday a few years ago and it is so special to me! Here is the one I have: Bible the best part is the large margins, so when I'm sitting in bible study, at church or just reading I can write down notes right there! And I can always come back to them.

  • Listening to the Bible, on the Youversion Bible app on my phone! I don't let this take place of reading the Word but it is super helpful to hear it and then go read it or read it first and listen to it again. You can do this anywhere! I like to do it in the car or while I get ready in the morning.

  • Podcasts, when I am super busy and all I have is the car ride to Target to change my mindset I love to listen to a Podcast to get encouragement from other Godly women. When I do this it reminds me what to keep my mind on and helps me to dig deeper into the topics talked about. A few of my favorite podcasts
-Risen Motherhood- Feels like I'm hanging out with a couple of friends! These girls are so relatable and do not skimp on truth! They have a great collection of topics and a lot of the time I wish I could take notes haha! Luckily they do that for you in the show notes on their blog.

-Journey Women- Hunter, the host totally feels like your best friend! She is so warm and a great podcaster! She is huge on biblical literacy so herself and her guests are always pointing you back to the word and they encourage you to dig in for yourself!

-At Home With Sally- 10/10 times when I listen to Sally Clarkson's podcasts I feel better. She is such a wealth of wisdom! It feels like you are spending time with the sweetest mentor when you listen to her! She is also an amazing writer! I love these books of hers: SALLYS BOOKS

A few other thoughts:
-Your quiet time might not be quiet, more than likely you will get interrupted. But if you are doing it with kiddos who are awake how cool is it for them to see their mama in the Word! What a great way to live out what we want for our babies.
-You might have to do it at night, sorry sis. But your little one might wake up before the sun and you might not get to have your coffee with Jesus when you rise. But that's okay! I have had to switch to nights for a long season! And it is so so peaceful at night when everyone is asleep.
-His presence can meet you anywhere! Even in the car when you are singing to your favorite worship song! Rejoice friend, even just singing in the car you are worshiping the King!

So I think what I am trying to say here is quiet time with the Lord does not have to be big, it doesn't need to be fancy! You just need to find what works for you in your current season of life. That could be just reading and meditating on one verse or it could be a full on inductive Bible study!

I hope this helps and was a little encouragement!

In love,
